Pictured above are Austin Flute Choir members Danelle Sasser, Sally Grant, Penny Griffy, and Dana Prater. The quartet had the wonderful opportunity of helping the Austin Lyric Opera Co. celebrate its Silver (25th) Anniversary on Saturday, November 5th. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's famous opera, The Magic Flute, was performed that weekend as it had been one of the first operas produced in the ALO's infancy. Our flutists performed several selections from the opera itself plus other famous works by Mozart such as "The Marriage of Figaro," "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik," and "Divertimento." They were featured during the cocktail hour in the Kodosky Lounge of the Long Center.

The workshop will happen directly after our short meeting and is only open for current members of the club. All are encouraged to attend this informative workshop. He will demonstrate excerpts from the repertoire and will compare the French and American techniques of articulation while guiding you toward your most expressive articulation. Bring your flute!

Frappes and FLUTES - for Austin Teachers

The Austin Flute Club sincerely hopes the Austin heat has been treating everyone well. In the summer months the oppressive weather tends to makes people languid and lazy, but do not fear, for the AFC is here to help motivate and energize your teaching and playing! Please join us on Saturday July 30th at Austin Java (12th and Lamar).

Frappes and Flutes - July 30, 2011 @ Austin Java (12th and Lamar)

8:30am - Arrive and grab a drink
8:35am - Icebreaker
8:40-9:10am - Round table discussion

Three words: We need you. The Austin Flute Club is at a crossroads and we need you to make the club the very best it can be. We want to tailor the club to serve our teachers and students as effectively as possible but we can’t do it alone. We have several board positions open for the new school year and will be discussing how to get involved.

We realize that time is tight for teachers, but we also know how important it is to provide a forum to share ideas, develop new creative ideas, and expand your circle of friends and colleagues. We look forward to Frappes & Flutes being the perfect blend of education (a brief presentation on a topic by a teacher just for our teachers), relationship building, and of course a cup of “joe”… Frappes & Flutes is open to flute teachers of all levels and experience.
