French Food and Flute Ensemble

Please join us for our next Creative Community event as we sample French delicacies and read through flute ensemble music. Food will be prepared by board members, François Minaux and Katie Larue. Please bring a stand and any duets, trios, quartets, etc. In the spirit of the season, we will read through an original arrangement called Greensleeves Adrift for flute octet by Bryan Kennard.

If you wish to attend, please RSVP at austinfluteclub@gmail.com as space may be limited. As always, all of our monthly Creative Community events are FREE for members, so please take time and complete your membership information here if you have not yet done so!

Pictured above are Austin Flute Choir members Danelle Sasser, Sally Grant, Penny Griffy, and Dana Prater. The quartet had the wonderful opportunity of helping the Austin Lyric Opera Co. celebrate its Silver (25th) Anniversary on Saturday, November 5th. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's famous opera, The Magic Flute, was performed that weekend as it had been one of the first operas produced in the ALO's infancy. Our flutists performed several selections from the opera itself plus other famous works by Mozart such as "The Marriage of Figaro," "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik," and "Divertimento." They were featured during the cocktail hour in the Kodosky Lounge of the Long Center.

Creative Community Meeting, Nov. 6th at 7:00pm

We would like to invite you to our November Creative Community Meeting, happening this Sunday, November 6th, 7:00PM at the home of Penny Griffy:

6806 Pioneer Place
Austin, TX 78757

As an added bonus, this weekend we will be hosting the first workshop in our season's workshop series: Expressive Articulation with Dr. Francois Minaux.

The workshop will happen directly after our short meeting and is only open for current members of the club. All are encouraged to attend this informative workshop. Dr. Minaux will look closely at where to put the tongue and lips, and how to shape the air to articulate. He will demonstrate excerpts from the repertoire and will compare the French and American techniques of articulation while guiding you toward your most expressive articulation. Bring your flute!

We hope you and your students will be able to attend this exciting workshop! See you there!
